Starting the shift with a conversation
On a running site the first task is not cleaning, it is finding out what is available. A short exchange with the shift supervisor establishes which aisles are being worked, where vehicle movement is concentrated, whether any area can be released for the next hour and whether anything unusual is happening. That conversation takes a few minutes and it determines everything the crew does afterwards.
Without it the crew guesses, and guessing on a site with forklifts and reach trucks is how incidents happen. It also produces a poor result, since the crew will default to the areas that are always available, typically amenities and offices, and the operational floor will receive whatever attention is left. Coordination is what makes the operational areas reachable at all. Coordination is what makes the operational floor reachable at all rather than optional.
